Green Certification Overview
The EU Ecolabel is the only pan-European environmental certification for accommodation. Criteria cover energy consumption, water use, waste management and chemical use. As of 2023, Spain has one of the highest numbers of EU Ecolabel certified accommodations in Europe.
Issued by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), this certification aligns with UNESCO's Man and Biosphere programme. It covers destinations, hotels and tour operators. Several Spanish communities, including Lanzarote and the Canary Islands, hold Biosphere Destination certification.
